Possible temporary water discolouration as Faure Water Treatment Plant resumes operations

Over the past weekend, some residents reported temporary water discolouration in areas serviced by the Faure Water Treatment Plant (WTP). After investigation, the City identified treatment process anomalies as the cause. In terms of our commitment to producing high quality drinking water for Cape Town and surrounds, the plant was isolated on Saturday, 2 November 2024 for comprehensive testing.
After testing and evaluation, the Faure WTP will be restarted today to continue meeting the City's water supply needs. Residents may initially notice temporary water discolouration as the plant reintegrates into the supply network. This discolouration is expected to clear as the system stabilises and poses no immediate concern. We thank residents for their understanding as operations normalise.
The City is monitoring the situation to ensure that the water continues to comply with SANS 241 standards and will issue precautionary notices if necessary.
If tap water appears discoloured, residents are advised to let it run for a while and it will clear up.
